Madam Butterfly

Butterfly and Quambatook

Central Australian Waler station bred stock horses were taken to Newhaven Station in the 1950s, the isolation and hard country protecting the impressive old-bloodlines and continuing the attributes of being wise and hardy. Excellent bone, some medium but largely light athletic types, with proven good temperaments. They were removed in the early 2000s, some saved from yards in Alice Springs and others (like Butterfly) as youngsters in SA awaiting processing through Peterborough Meatworks.

We are gathering and preserving as much information as possible about our Waler horses. Please let us know if you know anything more about Fly, anecdotes and photos welcomed!

This is what we know about how Madam Butterfly came to Victoria.
