Newhaven Fisher

Waler gelding Newhaven Fisher in his paddock at Clarkefield

Fisher started it all off for me (AngelaT), and he has influenced everything that has happened along my Waler journey.

Beware, his influence extends to all who meet him, don’t ask me how, just know that it is so. Such a privilege to have met him, and to enjoy our adventures along the way.

Central Australian Waler station bred stock horses were taken to Newhaven Station in the 1950s, the isolation and hard country protecting the impressive old-bloodlines and continuing the attributes of being wise and hardy. Excellent bone, some medium (like Fisher) but largely light athletic types, with proven good temperaments. They were removed in the early 2000s, some saved from yards in Alice Springs and others (like Fisher) as youngsters in SA awaiting processing through Peterborough Meatworks.

This is what we know about how Fisher came to Victoria.
