Additional Notes

“…he was bought from… Blackbutt (SE QLD) from Angela McCullough. She brought him down from Townsville, however there was no discussion if this is where pony was bred etc (it wasn’t important). I’m *assuming * he was from further north as there was mention that he was transported by rail at some stage….”

Lots of silver bays & bays around Goldsborough, & Fraser coast. Used to be really good Timor sorts mostly shot out now we think?

Any more info & pics if available would really help us place the origin of this pony.

He certainly got a fabulous home with Kellie. Although our army preferred bays, chestnuts, browns and black, they were but a tiny part of sales; Walers (an Australian line of horse and pony bred for utility and our conditions in those times) came in almost all colours. The old saying “colour sells” meant some were bred as single dilutes. Matched pairs and teams of creamies (palominos, buckskins etc) sold extremely well in India for example. There were far fewer of these colours but they were about. Qld imported many top quality Welsh Ponies that went into the genesis of their ponies.

Beau

Would anyone know this brand please? Kellie is hoping for help, approaching us in 2021.

She bought this dear pony – named Beau and 13.1hh – about 25 years ago. He’s about 35 years old now, still hale and hearty.

“I’m more curious to learn of his origins as it may give insight into his quirks and sturdy well being and health….”

Well he looks and sounds like a Waler pony to me Kellie! – possibly with a good dash of Welsh in his ancestry.
