Four Years Already!

So much has happened in the last twelve months, not just in the world of Walers, but in the world in general. For those of us lucky enough to have Walers in their lives, what a privilege it is to be able to retreat into a positive bubble far from the madding crowd.

It’s now four years for this website as we continue to build a public place for all things Waler.

Visiting the last known station herd last August was a real highlight and led to an opportunity to trap and rehome 17 of these wonderful horses. Hopefully we will hear more stories over time of their progress in their new domestic lives: sincere and heartfelt thanks to those dedicated people who have taken on one or more of these horses.

There’s been a bit of unrest in the world of Australian horses too it seems. Focus is turning towards the old-fashioned horse and with it the realization that they are not being preserved by the groups that claim to have that as their mission. At the risk of being boring on the subject, we will only retain our old-fashioned horse for the future if people remain truly and transparently engaged with the process, with their actions speaking louder than their words. Put the horses first, always.

Please help take these old-fashioned horses back into public hands where they belong. Breed Societies and Associations have their role to play of course, but it is only We The People who can give the horses jobs and lives in our families and homes, without which their future is uncertain at best and non-existent at worst.

Learn from the example of what happens when we stop seeing and listening to those actions and decisions that can so easily destroy the sense of what it is to be a global citizen with the world order now upended by careless and agenda driven behaviours, bringing so much uncertainty and hardship to so many. Above all, learn about our old-fashioned horse and horse history, and be kind to each other. Walers are excellent role models for that.
