Vale Peter Fischer

Peter Fischer was a founding member of the Waler Horse Owners and Breeders Association and a driving force behind the handful of people working to save the breed. Image: Facebook post, farewell 30 July 2016.

On Thursday the 14th of July, 2016 we said our heartfelt goodbyes to a truly remarkable man. Peter Fischer was laid to rest surrounded by family and friends, and with his beloved Billjim’s daughter, Twilight watching over him.

Peter Fischer was a founding member and driving force behind the handful of people who made it their life missions to save a breed everyone said didn’t exist. ‘Try telling that to the horses’, they used to say. He never gave up on the Waler, and for their salvation and continued success we, Waler enthusiasts from every corner of the world, are indebted to him.

Thank you for all you have given, Peter. May You Rest In Peace.

Spot the Waler!

Strong of bone, sure of feet – A truer friend, you’ll never meet.

Work the stock, pull the cart – Plain of looks, big of heart.

Hard of hoof, soft of eye – Bears the blood of days gone bye.

Bred to work, not to show – …The Waler horse… so now you know.
